The Old Stables is a boutique cottage built around the way dog owners actually holiday. Canal walks from the door and dog-friendly pubs on the dorrstep.
Almost every guest who stays at The Old Stables brings a dog — it’s genuinely part of how we designed the stay, not just a box we ticked. You’ll find canal walks and countryside loops straight from the front door, dog-friendly pubs within a few minutes’ walk, a village well used to dogs on and off the lead in the right spots, and easy access to the North Wessex Downs for longer countryside walks.
You don’t need to drive anywhere to start walking — these routes all begin right outside.

What’s good right now in and around Kintbury, from food and drink to handy local spots.
We don’t currently have an enclosed garden space for dogs, but there are plenty of short walks just a stone’s throw away. We’d recommend bringing your dog’s own bed and food, so they’re as comfortable as possible with their familiar things. Waste bags are available locally at Corner Stores, a 30 second walk away, and if you could let us know ahead of arrival how many dogs are joining you, that would be a big help.
